Sports West Natural Bodybuilding Team prepares for Natural Bodybuilding contest THIS Weekend!

Baron_practice Sports West Competitor Baron practices the routine he'll be performing on Saturday Night.
He will be competing in the 17-19 age group, and this will be his first bodybuilding event. Drawing on his background in gymnastics, Baron will be including a number of aerial back flips in his routine.

The Sports West Natural Bodybuilding Team has been diligently training hard since January for the
Mr. & Ms. Millenium + Mr. and Ms. Reno contest which will take place THIS weekend, Saturday June 6th at Reno High School. (Tickets are on Sale now at front desk!). Along with the many weeks and months of weight-lifting and cardio sessions, all of these athletes have followed a strict eating program, progressively reducing carbohydrate and calorie intake in the last few months. During The last several days before the event, they will start to take in large amounts of carbs and very little water. Their carb-deprived muscles will pull in all of the carbs, along with most of the water under the skin which will help to make the muscles look fuller, and will pull the skin tighter, thus enhancing muscle definition.

With less than a week left, most of the training emphasis now is on practicing their posing and routines. When most of us think about the hard work it takes to compete in bodybuilding, we think about the all of the long hours hard weight-lifting over months and years. What many don't realize is that in addition to the grueling training regimen, practicing the poses is also a very physically demanding endeavor. Learning to properly execute competitive poses involves much more than simply going out on stage and flexing one's biceps. Many multiple-hour sessions of practice, which involve long sets of isometric muscle contractions will give the most conditioned athlete an exhausting workout.

There are 10 required poses that contestants need to perform in bodybuilding competition, and they all need to be done correctly and on cue as dictated by the judges.

The main show in the evening will feature the bodybuilders' individual routines, which each competitor develops on his own, and can involve any combination of a variety of poses and movements to music. These routines are required to last anywhere from 30 to 90 seconds. This is the "crowd pleaser" part of the show, and will start at 6 p.m.

Sports West Natural Bodybuilding Team Trains for Bodybuilding Competition in June!

Leg Press
Sports West personal trainer and bodybuilder Vic Oueilhe spots S.W.A.C. Natural Bodybuilding Team member Mike Prater on leg press.

For the past 5 months, you may have seen a number of Sports West members and trainers pumping heavy iron as they gain muscle mass and definition.

Sports West Trainer and Bodybuilder Vic Oueilhe has put together the Sports West Natural Bodybuilding Team and is helping to guide many of the more than 10 competitors as they have followed a rigourous and grueling training regimen.

While Vic has been competing for almost 18 years, most of the others will be competing for their first time on June 6, 2009 when they prepare for the

Mr. & Ms. Millenium + Mr. and Ms. Reno at Reno High School.

(Tickets for both the pre-judging and the Main Event are on Sale NOW at the Sports West Front Desk! Come and support the Sports West Team and see some amazing physiques!)

The Mr. & Ms. Millenium + Mr. and Ms. Reno competition is a Natural Bodybuilding event, which means that all contestants are tested for any and all performance-enhancing drugs. This ensures that all of the competitors have achieved their physiques through hard training and by discliplined dieting, not by ingesting steriods and other drugs.

Training for a bodybuilding event takes a lot of time and planning. Our Sports West athletes started preparing for this competition in January. From January until March, the emphasis was on lifting heavy and gaining muscle mass. Since the end of March, the emphasis has been on reducing body fat and working on muscle definition. In order to get lean, bodybuilders continue to train hard while following a strict dieting program that focuses on high quality protien and low-glycumic carbs. All this while lifting at least 4 days a week, and doing cardio 6 days a week-a true testament to the focus and discipline exhibited by Sports Wests' Team of bodybuilders!

Stay tuned to www.sportswestreno.com as we will have updates on various members of the Sports West Team as they enter their final 2 weeks of preparation!
