Stretches to Avoid Back Pain

Nearly all of us experience some level of back pain at some point in our lives. In fact, Americans spend close to $15 billion per year seeking medical remedies yet less than 15% of these back pain sufferers ever get a diagnosis as to what is causing this pain. ( from About.comMany of these people could have saved some money by engaging in a program desined to improve core strength and flexibility as well as the muscles of the hips and buttocks. In the absence of resistance training, most men over the age of 35 will start to lose muscle mass and strength in the gluteal muscles. This weakness contributes greatly to non-specific back pain, because pelvic instability adds more stress to the muscles of the lumbar region.
It is with all of this in mind that this week I am simply providing you with a link to one of the pages on www.drmirkin.com that features a video with several stretches you can perform daily to help alleviate any chronic, non-specific lower-back pain that you might have. Even if you don't have pain (and cout yourself lucky!) these are great stretches to do as part of any flexibility program.
